THE BRIEF

The original design brief was supplied by Probuild Construction and discussions were entered into about the best way to maximise protection of the outdoor structures from the harsh coastal conditions.

WA Timber Decking suggested the use of extra waterproofing with the use of corflute on top of the painted membrane. This allowed for a maximum protection to the concrete slab and made for practical installation of the structure.

Versi jacks were recommended for the support to the decking joists because of the versatility in limited height (100mm) locations. Versi Jacks were also perfect for the extreme weather conditions that the WA coastline dishes up daily.

Stainless steel fasteners were used to secure the wide Modwood decking to the H3 CCA pine substrate for a long term benefit. The reasons for using Modwood for this project were simple; it is moisture resistant, it wont warp, it doesn’t splinter, and has a very low fading rate due to its high UV rating. Modwood also comes in three colours and it is easy to install. For more information on Modwood go to www.modwood.com.au.

THE RESULT

Probuild Construction was very pleased with the result because it complemented the apartment design and had a stunning appearance. It also provided a low maintenance and very durable option to the exclusive apartments overlooking the Scarborough Beach coastline.
